Post Office Closures - National Action Group CAPOC - Communities Against Post Office Closures |
![]() |
National Federation of Community Organisations.
We have recieved a strong message of support from the National Executive Committee of the National Federation of Community Organisations.
Many of their member organisations have been directly affected by Post Office Closures and are fearful of the profound effect that these closures will have on the diversity of community life and on the environment.
Their support is greatly welcomed and appreciated.

Campaign Progress (Friday 28 March 2008)
One of our main Aims - "3, To attract the national media to the farce, and through that publicise what Post Office Ltd have actually been doing rather than what the public believe Post Office Ltd have been doing!" - has been largely achieved thanks to members of the opposition parties, and the debate in the House of Commons on 18th March. Listening to the arguments put forward anyone could be forgiven for thinking that we (CAPOC) had briefed them.
Although the vote was lost it was by a very narrow margin, (in fact if 11 of the two faced Labour MPs had voted with their conscience instead of the party line the vote would have been won, the closures suspended and the farce sorted out). We should look on it as a victory, and take away from it the amount of support there is out there. We will build on it!
It is also pleasing to find that many Local Action Groups are now taking advantage of the advice on the "Save Your Own Post Office" pages - our first aim!
We move on.
National Q Day Bricked Them In
Terry O'Halloran lead Langworth and actually bricked in BERR (DTI) on Monday 17th March - and yet it still did not make national news! What is going on with the national media we ask!

CAPOC Interview Hijacked (Wed 19 March 08) - Group portrayed as nimby rather than trying to save viable Post Office Branches:
The Early Day Motion in the Commons provoked a flurry of activity in the national media - at last.
The front page lead in the Telegraph finally grasped the essentials of the story and we had subsequent follow-ups from GMTV, BBC Radio 5 Live and other radio stations (and it's still only 6.30 am).
One or two still didn't "get it" - taking clips of interviews out of context for other agendas, such as the general threat to rural communities, was hardly the point on the morning of the debate.
And there's no doubt that pressure of time gives little chance to develop the attack against PO Ltd - do it in 90 seconds or don't do it at all.
National Q Day
“Save Langworth Post Office” have hired a 56 seater bus to go to London
for Monday 17th March. They will be arriving early in London (7:30AM)
and have a morning of protest activities before returning in the afternoon.
7:30am - London protest
9:00am - Queue to be second class and buy a stamp (national queue for
a stamp day)
11:00am – see MP
12:00am speakers corner
