Communities Against Post Office Closures - CAPOC
The National Campaign

Why Was CAPOC Formed - What is it's aims and objectives?

Since October 2007 it has become increasingly clear that Post Office Ltd have been playing off each individual post office branch in an area against it's neighbours, and have kept the truth about how they are carrying out the closure programme from the general public.

The population at large still believe that only non-viable post offices are being closed - not only is this not true, Post Office Ltd are leaving little used non-viable post offices open!

Hence CAPOC was conceived.

So what are the aims of CAPOC?

1. To provide a focal point and knowledge base (via the website) for all those communities whose Post Offices are currently under the threat of closure, in order to help them fight to save their own Post Office.
2. To form a strong united group to lobby the Government (and other bodies) to stop the current farce, and correct the wrongs already done by Post Office Ltd to date.
3. To attract the national media to the farce, and through that publicise what Post Office Ltd have actually been doing rather than what the public believe Post Office Ltd have been doing!

And the Objectives?

1. To stop any further viable, well used Post Offices from being closed.
2. To protect Post Offices where they are a vital service to the local community, especially where without the Post Office the shop would become non-viable, and it is the only shop in the area.
3. To re-open any Post Office where it can be seen that it should not have closed, and where the local community and Post Master wish it to re-open.
4. To protect the Post Office Service in the UK from being destroyed.

The Post Office in the UK is a service, NOT a business. There is a big difference in running a service on business-like grounds, and running it as a business!

And one last thought. It is not the ability to collect your pension or benefits etc that is being lost, nor the ability to tax your car. As unpopular as they are, especially with the older generation, there are more efficient alternatives. What is really being lost is the Postal Service - the sharp end of the Royal Mail. Without the local post office you will have to go to the nearest town to post your mail - those packages and parcels, recorded deliveries etc.
